Pets

Pets. There are many reasons to find fault with humans in general, from how we treat the planet to how we treat each other, but one of the better traits to recommend our species is how we love our pets. It is a truly selfless, unconditional kind of love.

They don't have to pretend to be younger than they are, or stay thin, or stay muscular, they don't have to have a practical purpose, or have a sense of humor, or even carry a conversation. We love them, feed them, clean up after them, pet them, buy them toys, food, treats, and lavish our love and attention and play with them no matter how old, how scruffy, or how fat, or sick they get, right up to the last minute they are with us in this world.

Mankind has lots of achievements in this world from mathematics to music, from building bridges to building entire cities, from microbiology to astrophysics. But probably the highest recommendation for our character is how we love and care for our pets
